about

Jolin Lee is a non-binary narrative filmmaker of Singaporean Chinese heritage, based in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Jolin explores themes of family, community, and sociology through narrative analogies, camouflaging universal truths at the heart of each piece in equal parts wit, wonder, and warmth.

Jolin’s debut short Ur Dead to Me, an elliptical narrative fiction, screened at numerous festival audiences across the globe in 2018 including the Academy Award qualifying Palm Springs Shortfest, won People's Choice in Indieflicks 2018, and the Audience Award in Sunday Shorts 2018.

Following that in 2019, Jolin served as a writer and editor for the award winning local series The Eggplant, an educational series for Rangatahi that warned against the dangers of misusing the internet, starring kiwi legends Karen O'leary and Tammy Davis.

In 2022, Jolin underwent the year-long DEGANZ Emerging Women Filmmakers Incubator to develop their feature film, as well as the Episode One Pilot development program through the Pan-Asian Screen Collective to develop a pilot and bible for a limited series.

Their third short film Chrysanthemum was made with the support of the New Zealand Film Commission and funded through the NZFC's Catalyst program, with production wrapping late 2023.

Jolin is also a creative and the current head of post production at Auckland advertising agency Motion Sickness.
